Public Speaking

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 8:12 AM

So, I was the keynote speaker at a women's retreat this weekend and I'm so happy THAT'S over with! The crazy thing is, I actually kinda enjoyed it. I had the crowd laughing hysterically while still making my points and it felt good. I loved getting 'instant feedback' on what I had to say and after so much rejection in the writing realm, it was nice to feel appreciated. I'm usually nervous in front of crowds, but had my friends praying for me to be bold - and I was. There we were, meeting in a beautiful chapel with amazing statues and images of angels everywhere and instead of being completely intimidated I just sort of felt like a part of it all. God is so good!

Only thing... now they want me to speak again! help.

Once you taste speaking success...
Hi Laurie:

Congratulations on a successful keynote experience. Like many people, you felt the fear but conquered it with boldness.

As you point out, the instant feedback is one of the most fulfilling aspects of public speaking. Once you taste speaking success, it keeps drawing you in again and again. Good luck in your future speaking (and writing) endeavors.

yeah, public speaking is not my cup of tea -- but it can grow on ya! :) I've done it once so far and I know, too, that prayer is the key! Once you're up there, just let if flow! :)

Yes, God is gooood! You'll do even better the next time! :)
